Daniel Williamson, PhD, is a Medical Writer in the Medical Writing, Editing, and Design Services (MEDS) group with RTI-HS. Dr. Williamson collaborates with researchers across therapeutic fields to plan and develop publications highlighting their work. Key research fields and therapeutic areas include biochemistry, molecular biology, connective tissue disease, and oncology.
Prior to joining RTI-HS, Dr. Williamson accumulated over 10 years of academic research and industry laboratory experience. His doctoral and postdoctoral research at the University of Georgia focused on characterizing 2 novel glycosyltransferases and exploring their function within mammalian development of the heart, lungs, and skeleton using mouse knockout models and biochemical methods. In 2017, he received the National Institutes of Health Training Grant within the Glycoscience Training Program, which supports the rigorous training of predoctoral students in both chemistry and biochemically based approaches to address biological questions. He also conducted undergraduate research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he investigated the microbiome in patients with irritable bowel syndrome compared with healthy individuals. Before his doctoral research, he worked as a technologist in a molecular oncology lab where he became more versed in cancer diagnostics and prognostics.
